St. Croix County Air Quality Emissions Report
The St. Croix County Air Quality Emissions Report provides a countywide baseline for understanding greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, tracking changes over time, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability. The report examines emissions from 2005 through 2022 across six sectors: agriculture, building energy, industrial facilities, transportation, waste and materials, and natural systems. It also includes future projections for selected sectors and compares St. Croix County’s per-capita emissions with nearby counties. The data show that transportation and building energy were the County’s largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in 2022, while natural systems—including forests, soils, wetlands, and other natural lands—provided an important net carbon benefit by removing and storing carbon from the atmosphere.
The report is intended to establish measurable baseline data, identify major emission sources, track performance over time, and inform decision making. It also connects Wisconsin State pollution-reduction strategies with existing St. Croix County programs and initiatives in areas such as conservation, land use, transportation, building efficiency, natural resource protection, and waste reduction. Together, this information can help the County evaluate trends, identify practical opportunities for pollution reduction, improve program effectiveness, and strengthen future planning and grant efforts.
